Consultation on the recommendations of the Varma report

News ·

In October 2021, the Government of New Brunswick appointed Commissioner Manju Varma to lead a comprehensive listening and dialogue exercise on inclusion and equity in the province. In 2022, she submitted her final report on systemic racism, which includes 86 recommendations drawn from the testimonies of people from all walks of life.

These recommendations provide an important roadmap for building a more inclusive society. However, some are particularly urgent.

As part of the Karibu project, our approach is therefore to consult with various social groups to identify the priority recommendations on which the government should act first. This consultation will contribute to the development of a concrete action plan for a truly equitable social climate.

We invite you to:

  1. Review the recommendations related to your sector;
  2. Indicate the three you consider most urgent;
  3. Respond to our online survey, accessible here: Form
  4. Attend one of the upcoming sessions. Click the link to register:

This consultation will inform the development of a concrete action plan to foster a truly equitable social climate. This plan will be submitted to the provincial government to support the implementation of a comprehensive and coherent strategy to combat systemic racism, long awaited by our communities.

This work is made possible with the financial support of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation.
