Karibu Project
Together, let's build an equitable New Brunswick
Why KARIBU?
New Brunswick is at a turning point. For too long, systemic racism has shaped the life trajectories of many racialized people.
Today, it is time to transform our institutions and practices to build a fairer and more inclusive society.
Where do we start?
In 2022, Commissioner Manju Varma released a landmark report with 86 recommendations to address systemic racism.
Yet, no concrete action plan has been implemented to date.
Our Goal
Moving from knowledge to action. Through KARIBU, we are launching a community consultation to:
- Identify the most urgent recommendations.
- Develop a prioritized action plan.
- Submit this plan to the provincial government.
How to participate
- Step 1: Review the recommendations related to your sector.
- Step 2: Select the top 3 priorities.
- Step 3: Take part in our online survey here.
- Step 4: Community consultations will take place in 5 regions: Bathurst, Fredericton, Edmundston, Moncton and Saint John.
A Shared Responsibility
The fight against systemic racism is not the sole responsibility of its victims. It requires commitment from:
- Governments
- Public institutions and healthcare systems
- Educational institutions
- Justice and housing sectors
- Workplaces
The Time for Transformation
Our communities will wait no longer. History will remember not our words, but our ability to act.
